Chester busker performs at town hall

Philip Chidell, a popular busker who performs in Chester city centre, has staged a concert at Chester Town Hall.

Chidell is a classically trained violinist. He started learning at age six and soon went on to become the youngest student at Chetham’s School of Music, a prestigious school in Manchester. At just age 13, he played solo with an orchestra for the first time. He has performed around the UK with a number of orchestra and ensembles at venues like Windsor Castle’s St George's Chapel, the Royal Festival Hall, Chester Cathedral and Manchester Cathedral.

He also plays for visitors to Chester city centre with his violin, which was crafted by Sebastian Klotz 274 years ago. He put on the show with an ensemble of 10 other carefully selected musicians. It featured not just renditions of classical music, but also some hits from musicals and the big screen.

Chidell said about the concert:

“The first concert was such a joy, and we had a wonderfully enthusiastic audience. The feedback has been unbelievably positive, and to my amazement, dozens of those who attended have booked tickets to come back again for the second performance!”

Philip Chidell’s busking performances add to the historic and cultural charm of Chester, which is something that many students come to love.
