To celebrate its first anniversary, Chester Picturehouse is hosting a series of events, including a film screening for just £1.
Chester Picturehouse opened in October last year, and since then has become a favoured destination for movie enthusiasts and casual film viewers. The cinema shows a wide variety of films, from independent favourites to Hollywood blockbusters.
At 16:50 on Sunday November 10, for just a pound you can see a screening of The Grand Budapest Hotel, the film by Wes Anderson that inspired the cinema’s interior design. If you’re after new releases, you will be able to see Blitz from Saoirse Ronan and the latest Paddington Bear film, Paddington in Peru. On the Saturday, there will be an uncommon screening of Oxide Ghosts: The Brass Tapes, a cult classic, together with features from director Michael Cumming.
The venue’s general manager, Alf McClean, said about the celebrations:
“…we’re truly grateful for the warm welcome we’ve received from the community. It’s been wonderful to see so many local residents, groups, and organisations make the cinema their own—from joining us for film seasons with Chester Film Society to hosting events with Chester Heritage Festival and Pride.”
He added that the year had been memorable at seeing the venue come to life with Chester residents’ various voices and stories, and he said everyone was excited about what will come in future.
