Chester enjoys brand new themed cocktail

The Caribbean-themed bar and restaurant chain Turtle Bay has partnered up with Chester Zoo to invent a new cocktail just for the city.

Turtle Bay strived to create a new cocktail to mark its upcoming arrival in Chester when it opens its new restaurant in the city’s Northgate development, and has teamed with Chester’s renowned zoo to deliver the beverage.

The new Caribbean Flamingo cocktail is inspired by one of the zoo’s most colourful resident species. It includes Wray and Nephew rum, a legendary Jamaican export, and Koko Kanu, a coconut-infused variant. This is then mixed with a hazelnut-flavoured liqueur, coconut milk and strawberry puree to achieve a fruity, bright pink beverage in honour of its namesake. For every cocktail sold, a pound will be donated to the zoo’s conservation efforts.

Chester Zoo’s general manager for birds, Mark Vercoe, said about the new cocktail:

“There are six flamingo species and the Caribbean flamingo is the most colourful of them all, with their iconic colouration coming from the tiny plants and invertebrates they eat. They’re a wonderful species and we’re sure people will be equally tickled pink by Turtle Bay’s new Caribbean Flamingo cocktail…”

He added that, in addition to being a bit of fun, the new cocktail will make a meaningful contribution to the zoo’s conservation work for Caribbean flamingos, both in the wild and the zoo itself.
