Chester student nominated for national sustainability award

Graduating Chester student Laura Tuckey has made the shortlist to possibly become the Sustainability Champion of the Year. The award is part of the Green Gown Awards, which recognise the sustainability efforts of colleges and universities around the world.

In addition to her geography studies, Laura consistently went the extra mile to enhance the sustainability profile of the university and establishments in the wider community. For example, she collaborated with Storyhouse on introducing a scheme for reusing cups, and she served as a representative on the Sustainability Council of Chester Students’ Union. She also volunteered as a project coordinator for Welly Wednesdays, a conservation project led by students, and engaged at length with research projects related to sustainability.

The coordinator for sustainability engagement, Amy Butt, expressed the desire that Laura’s work ethic and commitment to offering opportunities related to sustainability should be recognised, adding:

“For this, I encouraged and worked with Laura to submit her application and I’m thrilled she’s been shortlisted. Laura is someone who gives without expectation of recognition, but, in this instance, her passion for making a difference and bringing people together to create a healthier, happier environment should be praised.”
