Becky Richardson, a financial accountant for the University of Chester, is running the London Marathon 2025 to raise funds for an important cause.
The major event will be held in the UK capital on March 18, and Richardson aims to obtain thousands in sponsorship pledges ahead of the race to help the Hospice of the Good Shepherd based in Backford.
Richardson works at the university’s finance department, which is based at the Queen’s Park campus near many student rentals in Chester. In a recent interview, the accountant revealed that her Cestrian aunt is travelling from America to run alongside her in the marathon and to help raise further funds.
Richardson commented online on her JustGiving page:
“Our shared goal is to support the hospice’s mission to provide free, compassionate care to patients and their families in their time of need and ensuring every pound raised makes a difference.”
Recently retired, her aunt Anne was born and raised in Chester but moved to Colorado in the US more than 30 years ago. Irrespective of the Atlantic Ocean in between them, Richardson and her relation have been encouraging one another as they raise funds and train for the big day.
Gyles Brandreth, University of Chester Chancellor, former politician and celebrated British broadcaster, has also pledged his support. He recorded a special video message to encourage Richardson and those attending to help her raise funds. The video was screened at the recent graduation ceremonies at Chester University.
