The first cohort of students doing a new graduate-entry MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery) programme have been welcomed at the University of Chester ahead of commencing their studies.

Unlike with a traditional MBChB degree, this programme is open to graduates with a degree in another discipline, so it provides a pathway for graduates to study medicine as mature students. It is not restricted to those with a degree in a healthcare or scientific discipline, and it welcomes students from a diverse range of backgrounds. Early on in their course, students are to be immersed in clinical settings to begin learning, with them being placed over Cheshire, North Wales and Shropshire within general practices, community clinical practices, as well as NHS hospitals.

Professor Arpan Guha, the Dean of Chester Medical School, and Professor Eunice Simmons, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the new students at a special event in the Wheeler building. Professor Simmons said to the new students:

“Welcome to Chester and welcome to the world of Medicine! It’s so exciting to meet the first intake of students for the Graduate Entry Medicine course here at the University of Chester. We are thrilled to play our role in supporting the next generation of doctors into the healthcare workforce.”

The University of Chester continues to attract new students thanks to its commitment to academic excellence. If you’re a Chester student in need of off-campus accommodation, you can find no-fees student accommodation in Chester in popular areas like Hoole and the Garden Quarter.
