Free exhibitions of university artists to take place over summer

The University of Chester is hosting a series of exhibitions over the summer months to showcase its students’ work in the Grosvenor Shopping Centre (Unit 14) at Contemporary Art Space Chester (CASC), Castlefield Gallery New Art Spaces.

Grace Currie had already earned a first-class degree from the University in Fine Art, and she was the first to put on her “Out of the Shadows” exhibition. Her art—which has been labelled as challenging, bold, and explorative—was inspired by her own experience with an acquired brain injury (ABI), together with the challenges, the developing worldview and the triumphs that came with it. The project was supported by Arts Council England (ACE) and included social work students also sharing their perspectives through focus groups.

An exhibition called “Artists Access to Art Colleges” will be next, running from August 10 to 23 and being open on Saturdays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 4pm.

The School for the Creative Industries’ head at the University of Chester, Associate Professor Bernadine Murray, said about the exhibitions:

“We have organised the series of exhibitions to showcase art, creativity, talent, learning and research, and get people thinking about the subjects explored. All the exhibitions are free, and we look forward to welcoming visitors as we develop the 2025 exhibition and events schedule.”
