Local businesses and staff from the University of Chester have met at Chester Town Hall to debate ways in which they could become more inclusive and sustainable.

Local businesses, university students and staff, as well as other organisations were free to participate in the event, which was organised by The Sustainability and Environment Research and Knowledge Exchange Institute (SERKEI) and Chester Business School. The event followed up on the “Survive or Thrive” conference at the Riverside Innovation Centre at the university last year, following feedback expressing further interest in discussing inclusivity and sustainability.

The talks at the event included issues like environmental justice and the business of nature, with the overriding aim being to help businesses become more sustainable and socially responsible.

Chester Business School lecturer Louise Goodman said:

“Businesses face so many, often conflicting pressures and challenges, but the Survive or Thrive events are proving that there is real passion to do business better and to share with and learn from others.”

Goodman thanked all those who had attended and spoke at the event, which included the university’s Professor Chantal Davies and representatives from Groundwork, Colas, Cheshire Wildlife and TrustSee Impact. Attendees at the event were invited to a private LinkedIn group to continue the discussion.
