University of Chester releases clearing guide for parents

With A-level results day fast approaching, the University of Chester has published a guide for parents and guardians that will help them to support their children if they need to go through the Clearing process.

While Clearing is traditionally associated with getting disappointing exam results that don’t meet the requirements of a student’s conditional offers, many are choosing to go through clearing for other reasons. Last year, a record 38,140 students got places at university through Clearing, with many seeing it as being more flexible with greater choice.

The University of Chester’s director responsible for admissions and recruitment, Ric Bengree, pointed out that people go:

“…through Clearing for lots of different reasons, including missing the original UCAS deadline, results not being as hoped, or better than expected, or having a change of mind about what to study. Whatever the reason, Clearing is a great opportunity to start afresh and apply for a 2024 university course.”

He added that the university understood the significant role that parents and other carers can play in helping their children to navigate the Clearing process, so it has suggested tips for guiding prospective students through the six basic steps. The guide can be found on the university’s website.
