Walking tour with Viking theme launched in Chester

You will soon be able to learn more about Chester’s rich history thanks to a new tour that will explore the city’s connection to the Vikings.

The new tour will start at the Town Hall Visitor Information Centre and will lead attendees around various places that are connected with the Vikings, who settled in Chester over a thousand years ago. It will explore their lifestyle, including how they interacted with the neighbouring Anglo-Saxons. The guides will be dressed as Viking shield maidens or warriors, and everyone participating will be given a model Viking coin.

The very popular Chester Ghost Tours began some 40 years ago, and its operator, The Guild of Ghost Hunters Ltd., is behind the new guided walk. Gerald Tattum, its director, said:

“We are delighted to launch this new venture and appreciate all the support we have received to get it off the ground, especially from The Townhouse Chester in Lower Bridge Street, an area where the Vikings settled—as well as in Handbridge across the river.”

He added that, in addition to providing an entertaining experience, the accuracy and authenticity of the tours would be ensured by them being led by a historian and an archaeologist. Tours will take place on Saturdays at 11 am and 3.15 pm, starting from July 13.

Chester’s rich history is a powerful draw for young people looking for a more colourful place to live. If you’re one of these, you can find young professional accommodation in Chester with bills included in the rent.
