The tourism chiefs for Chester and Wrexham have committed to collaborate in an effort to combine their cities’ relative strengths. The idea is to encourage more visitors and motivate them to stay longer.

Chester, of course, has considerable heritage with its Roman walls and the oldest operating racecourse in the world. It also has the renowned Chester Zoo for people to visit. Despite being in a different nation, Wrexham is just a 15-mile train ride away. Its profile has increased substantially in recent years following the acquisition of Wrexham Association Football Club by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The Disney+ streaming service has even made a series about the club’s progress since the acting duo took the club over.

With the series attracting more domestic and international visitors to Wrexham, the plan is to complement this success with the heritage sites in Chester and the wider Cheshire region. Visit England and Visit Wales led a meeting at Chester’s Grosvenor Pulford Hotel that was organised by Marketing Cheshire and Destination Wrexham. Industry experts, transport providers and hoteliers worked together at the meeting to discuss how they could best capitalise on the success of the series centred around Wrexham’s football club.

If you’re already studying in Chester, you won’t need anyone to tell you about Chester’s charms. If your mind is on more practical matters like where to live, Bed Student Rentals has a range of student accommodation in the Garden Quarter and Hoole close to the main campuses of the university.
