Student cinephiles looking to meet like-minded individual in Chester, won’t want to miss a new ongoing programme taking place at the city’s arts centre Storyhouse.

Dubbed “Reel Talk”, the cinema discussion group meets on the first Thursday of the month to discuss a piece of classic film that has screened recently at the hub’s single-screen theatre.

The meeting of Reel Talk takes place on June 5, where those assembled will discuss “The Picnic at Hanging Rock” the 1975 film from Australian director Peter Weir. The mystery film was a strong influence on maverick film maker Sofia Coppola, and is being shown at Storyhouse on Wednesday, May 21.

Ideal for students on a budget who love cinema, the screening has ‘Pay What You Can’ tickets for £4, £6.50 and £9.90, and the discussion group is completely free to attend.

A favourite hangout for students, Storyhouse is based near the university’s Gateway House building and student accommodation in Chester city centre. The arts centre also offers Young Storyhouse cards that let students aged 16 to 25 access free coffee in its café and discounted cinema and theatre tickets.

A community-focused club, Reel Talk is led by one of the Storyhouse Cinema team and has a relaxed round table format where film fans can connect and discuss their insights and opinions. Attendees also get to suggest and vote on films screened at Storyhouse for the club to discuss.

The home of art and media in Chester is simple to find on Hunter Street.
