Undergraduates studying music or media at Chester’s Kingsway campus can soon attend an upcoming concert that features both subjects.
Chester Cathedral is presenting a performance called the “Golden Age of Hollywood” that features beloved music from the home of America’s movie industry and its most iconic period.
Just a short 12-minute cycle from student accommodation in Hoole, the grade-listed cathedral often puts its impressive acoustics to good use, hosting musical shows from candle-lit choir performances to rock tribute bands. Now, the cathedral’s exquisite interior will be graced by the Fulltone Orchestra (FTO). Led by conductor Anthony Brown, they will take audiences on a musical odyssey back to an age that helped form the field of cinema scores for many decades.
Comprised of fifty accomplished musicians, the orchestra will breathe life into celebrated soundtracks for film tiles like “Ben-Hur”, “The Magnificent Seven” and the much-loved adaptation of Truman Capote’s novel “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, starring the iconic actress Audrey Hepburn.
Those attending can hear the works of unforgettable composers like Henry Mancini, Max Steiner and Bernard Herrmann and appreciate the vocal talents of Jemma Brown and Edward Kerr, who will sing with the orchestra on the evening.
The Golden Age of Hollywood will now be performed live in The Nave of Chester Cathedral on Friday, June 27. The cathedral is situated on St Werburgh Street in the city centre, and the concert will commence at 7.30 pm. Tickets with different views of the stage are available at tiered prices.
