Students across the UK will soon get a chance to access free admission to Chester Zoo.
A new initiative will see the zoo pledge close to 33,000 tickets to learners of different ages across the UK, including those studying in the city itself.
Just three miles from student accommodation in Hoole, Chester Zoo is a much-loved location for those learning at the city’s celebrated university. Home to 500 species, the award-winning animal attraction is also a tireless conservationist and committed to educating others on the plight of endangered creatures.
The aim of the initiative is to supply young people with the knowledge and skills they need to create a sustainable future shared by people and the wildlife around them. This will be the eighth year for the successful scheme that has seen over 175,000 young people enjoy free visits to the Chester charity on educational trips. For many children and young people, it could mark their first visit to Chester Zoo.
Education providers have until the end of February to apply for tickets. Those who successfully secure free tickets will get the chance to visit the zoo wildlife between November this year and February 2026.
Director of Conservation Education for the zoo, Charlotte Smith, commented that young people are now more concerned than they ever were before about climate change and nature.
The zoo has called on the government to harness the power of the UK’s young people to forge a more sustainable and greener future for the world by pressing for educational reform that would embed conservation action in the national curriculum.
