The Oakfield public house, which is situated in the middle of Chester Zoo, has announced that it will begin opening to the public on Sunday evenings in addition to the Friday evening that it currently opens.
The pub used to be just open during normal opening hours for the zoo, so visitors could get a drink and perhaps something to eat during their day out. After some interest in the idea, the zoo, which is a registered charity, tried opening to the public on Friday evening, so people could have a drinking and dining experience surrounded by the zoo’s many thousands of animals. It proved such a success that the decision was made to open on Sunday evenings as well.
Chloe Gill, the pub’s food and beverage operations manager, said:
“Our Friday evening trial proved to be super popular. So, in response to the phenomenal demand we’ve had, and as we head into summer months and begin to enjoy lighter evenings, we’re thrilled to extend our opening hours to include not just Fridays but Sunday evenings too!”
The pub will be open to the public from 5pm on Sunday, with the bar licensed to sell drinks until 10 pm. Food orders can be made until 7.30 pm, with the options including classic pub fare like fish and chips and sausage and mash, as well as Sunday roast and the pub’s very own steak burger.
