With the first-ever Chester Festival of Ideas fast approaching, the excitement is mounting as the organisers make their final preparations.

The festival, which is being organised by the University of Chester, will take place from Thursday, July 4 to Sunday, July 7 and involve numerous free-to-attend events and activities in and around Chester. There will be pop-up exhibitions, discussion panels, interactive activities, theatre, readings, music and guided walks centred around a diverse range of topics. A number of well-known personalities are participating in some of the events, and local schools are also stepping up, such as by organising a drop-in up-cycling workshop.

The festival’s leader, Katherine Wilson, who is an associate professor at the University of Chester, said that the excitement was building for the festival as they made their final preparations. She recommended that for anyone who still hadn’t made plans to attend:

“…please do take a look at the website and join us during what is set to be a fascinating and fun-filled four days, as we celebrate knowledge, inspiration and creativity here and beyond. We can’t wait to welcome everyone and place the spotlight on our incredible and vibrant city.”

She also said everyone would find something that they enjoy, with there being just under 100 activities and events on a diverse range of topics. The new festival typifies the vibrant nature of Chester, which is something that attracts many students to the city. The city also has quality student accommodation in Hoole and other popular locations, sometimes with no upfront fees or deposits to pay.
