Moonlight Flicks, Chester’s much-loved open air cinema programme, is coming back to Grosvenor Park this summer.
For more than a decade, city arts centre Storyhouse has provided unbeatable cinematic experiences to outdoor locations around Chester, from its Grade-I listed cathedral to the historic Roman Gardens. Summer 2025, however, will see the seasonal event return to the city’s favourite greenspace for two months of movie magic.
Based on Grosvenor Park Road near student accommodation in Chester city centre, the public gardens are a favoured spot for those at university in the summer months. Whether they’re picnicking with pals in the sun or revising in the shade, students are a common sight within its 20-acre grounds in June through August.
Undergraduates and postgraduates looking to relax and unwind this summer can ease into a deckchair and enjoy an authentic cinema show on a massive 30-foot screen (with noise-conscious headphones supplying surround sound). Those seeking to make it a party with friends can also pre-order frozen summer cocktails, iced beers, sparkling prosecco and woodfired pizzas cooked by professional pizza chefs as part of their ticket purchase.
Films showing this summer include “Dirty Dancing”, “Paddington in Peru”, “Mamma Mia!”, “Kneecap”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Grease”, “Pretty Woman”, “Wicked”, “The Greatest Showman”, and “True Romance”, written by Quentin Tarantino and starring Patricia Arquette, Christian Slater, Gary Oldman and Christopher Walken.
Storyhouse’s Moonlight Flicks will now run from Thursday, July 10 until Monday, August 25 at Grosvenor Park in Chester. Screenings will start at various times between 8.15 pm and 9.30 pm.
