A new statue of Paddington Bear has been unveiled in Chester by pupils of Grosvenor Park Academy as part of StudioCanal’s efforts to promote the iconic character’s upcoming new film, Paddington in Peru.
Regardless of age, fans can now take a seat on a bench by the famous bear and take a selfie to mark the occasion. The statue has been carefully made and painted to be true to the original, with him wearing his usual blue duffle coat and red hat and holding a half-eaten marmalade sandwich in his hands. Chester is among 23 towns, cities and beauty spots participating in a trail called Paddington Visits that will involve installing special Paddington statues.
Chester BID’s CEO, Carl Critchlow, said about the statue:
“Chester BID is delighted to help bring Paddington to Chester. The city’s classic charm will provide the perfect backdrop for discovering such a well-loved national icon. We’d encourage everybody participating in the UK and Ireland trail to take the time [to] explore Chester and everything our wonderful city has to offer.”
You can go and take your selfie with Paddington at the Bars Roundabout in Chester, while the new film will be showing in cinemas from November 8.
The arrival of an iconic character can only add to Chester’s charm, which already attracts people from around the country and the wider world to study at its university. If you’re one of these, you can find off-campus Chester university accommodation at affordable rates with bills included in the rent.
