Following an initial consultation, Chester Race Company has presented more details about its long-term plans to renovate the oldest racecourse in operation in the world.
About a hundred people attended the first consultation, and the company refined its plans based on this. The public were then invited to two further sessions to provide input to the more detailed plans. The overall plan will culminate in 2039 and coincide with the racecourse’s 500th anniversary, but the first phase will include two major projects.
First, Chester Race Company will seek to bring its various departments together into one hub based at Saddlery Way, incorporating operational facilities, stable staff accommodation and office space. Second, the current “Tented Village”, a temporary structure in the course enclosure, will be replaced with a new hospitality building.
Chester Race Company’s CEO, Louise Stewart, said that as the company got ready to present:
“…the more detailed plans, we look forward to further input from our neighbours, local groups, and the wider community. The consultation process remains crucial as we work towards realising our vision for Chester Racecourse in a way that respects its heritage and secures its future as a world-class venue.”
The plans are at an advanced stage. Subject to feedback from the informal sessions, they will be submitted for planning approval from Cheshire West and Chester Council.
