Chester now has its very own version of the board game MONOPOLY, thanks to the release of MONOPOLY: Chester Edition.
Chester Zoo got to host the launch of this special edition, which was attended by Mr. Monopoly himself. The zoo will be featured on the board, with it replacing Mayfair on the classic London board and costing £400. Over 30 organisations and landmarks in Chester are featured in the game, after the public was asked to send in their suggestions. For example, the four stations have been replaced by the Newgate, Watergate, Bridgegate, and Northgate archways. The Community Chest and Chance cards have also been modified to give a local feel. For example, mistakenly seeing a ghost in the fog on the Dee can land you with a fine.
Chester Zoo CEO Jamie Christon said the zoo was really honoured to be featured on a special version of the board game just for Chester. He added:
“It is a unique way to highlight our globally important wildlife charity and celebrate our connection to our local community. We hope this will inspire MONOPOLY players to learn more about the incredible species we care for and the crucial work we do to prevent extinction.”
Having its own edition of MONOPOLY is a reflection of Chester’s rich culture and heritage.
