Chester station to get new pub

Brewery Spitting Feathers has announced plans to restore and repurpose the west wing of Chester Railway Station, turning it into a pub that people can hang out at as they come and go from the city.

Nevertheless, the Grade II-listed building will require substantial investment to bring the building back up to par, so the brewery has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support the project. It says that with the help of people, it will restore:

“…a magnificent Grade II listed building to its former glory and create a warm, comfortable, high quality hospitality setting that Chester, its residents and visitors deserve. The station requires big investment and that’s where we hope you can help. We are launching a crowdfunding campaign to help fund the restoration.”

If it comes to be realised, the new pub will serve food both to take away or eat in. The bar area will have eight lines of cask beer and 20 lines of keg beer. The motto of the brewery is amusingly “Life is too short for crap beer”. A statue of leading railway developer Thomas Brassey has also been planned for erection at the station.

The new pub sounds like a useful addition for people visiting Chester, but it may also be a pleasant place to visit if you’re studying in Chester. Bed Student Rentals has off-campus accommodation near Chester university that is also handy for Chester city centre, and with bills included in the rent, there won’t be any arguments.
