Tianjiao Xiang—from Jingmen, Hubei, China—is expected to graduate a master’s degree with distinction after achieving very high marks in all modules.
She originally came to the University of Chester on the UK BA Popular Music Performance programme, but went on to learn how creativity can play a vital role in education.
She also wrote a dissertation about how important it was for higher education to include creativity in the pedagogy of learning and teaching. Despite initially struggling with her language confidence, Tianjiao also delivered two digital talks that have been described as an excellent demonstration of her presentation skills. One focussed on how dyslexia could affect the holistic of wellbeing of young children, while the other looked at how the relatively authoritarian style of parenting in China affected children.
The MA Education, Society and Globalisation Programme Leader Dr Paula Hamilton, said:
“…to watch Tianjiao grow in confidence over the last year. When she joined the MA she was reluctant to engage in discussions and assignment writing as she doubted her English language and writing skills. However, that was quickly overcome and Tianjiao became one of the main contributors during classroom discussion.”
If you’re also studying in Chester, you’ll of course need somewhere to live. While the university of course has some accommodation on its campuses, you can also secure off-campus student accommodation in Hoole and the Garden Quarter, which are still close to the university. Bills are often included and there may be no upfront fees to pay.
