A Chester University student is undertaking a mammoth fundraising effort of a solitary cycle across country.

Born over the border in Wrexham, Sam Williams is BA Business Management student enrolled at the university’s dedicated Business School. Located on the banks of the Dee, just a 20-minute walk from student accommodation in the Garden Quarter, the state-of-the-art school is within the Queen’s Park campus.

Williams’ upcoming odyssey in May will see him cycle all the way from John O’Groats to reach Land’s End within two weeks to support Mountain Rescue England and Wales. The independent charity is of personal importance to the young business student after its volunteer members rescued one of his friends in 2024 following an accident climbing in the Snowdonia National Park.

He commented:

“Mountain Rescue England and Wales is an incredible organisation made up of volunteers who dedicate their time to saving lives in the mountains. I’ve seen first-hand the vital work they do – whether it’s rescuing those in distress or providing crucial support to families in times of need.”

As Williams readies himself for his spring challenge, he explained the road ahead. His course will see him cover close to 1,000 miles encountering demanding terrain and unpredictable weather to test his determination, resilience and endurance. However, the upcoming expedition will let Williams show support for a worthy cause and enjoy his passions of cycling and spending time in the outdoors.

With a goal to raise £1,000, Williams will now set off on Saturday, May 24.
