First-year nursing students at the University of Chester recently participated in a simulated night shift event.

The event was held as part of the wider Simulated Practice Learning experience, which aims to deliver a broader clinical experience for students. This encompasses the likes of public health community-based days, lived experience service user days, scenario-based days and communication workshops. The simulations are intended to aid first-year students in building up their skills and confidence, so they will be prepared for placements later on in their studies.

This event, which some 144 students participated in, took place in Chester city centre and the sports hall at the university. Homelessness was the theme of the event, with a workshop being given by homeless charity Shelter.

Jenny Stewart, skills and simulation coordinator at the university’s practice education simulated learning team, said:

“This is the first time we have run the night shift as part of the Simulated Practice Learning experience and I was so impressed with the focus and professional behaviour of all of our students who joined the night shift.”

She also thanked the staff for supporting the event and Shelter for delivering the students with a workshop.

The initiative reflects one of the many innovative ways in which the University of Chester prepares its students. If you’re studying in Chester and looking for somewhere to live, we at Bed Student Rentals can offer a variety of off-campus student accommodation in Hoole and the Garden Quarter, so you can be close to both Chester city centre and the university campuses.
