Hulsons, a family-owned butchers originally based in Mold, has announced that it is to open a second branch in Chester.

The bakery and pie shop, which last year won a poll held by The Leader to find the best pie shop in North Wales, has been open as a shop since 1933, but its history as a bakery goes even further back to 1882. For over a century, it has been making high-quality products with unchanged methods and recipes, so its customers always know what to expect. It currently operates from Wrexham Street in Mold, but after 142 years, the business will finally be opening a second branch on lower Bridge Street in Chester on October 1.

Saffron from Hulsons said to the Leader:

“We thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take our family business over the border to Chester. We love offering, what we believe, are quality homemade products made by our family using the same recipes and techniques we’ve used for over 100 years.”

She added that it was great to see cities and towns like Chester being occupied by small businesses again, much like they were in the past. She said Hulsons would love to be part of Chester potentially becoming an amazing community of real small traders.

The new shop will add to Chester’s diverse range of businesses selling artisan food. If you’re thinking about, or already planning on, coming to Chester to work, you can find affordable young professional accommodation in Chester with bills included in the rent.
