The 2025 Guardian University Guide has been published, and the University of Chester has managed to continue its steady rise up the rankings.
Just two years ago, the university was ranked 74th of all the UK higher education institutions, but thanks to its ongoing commitment to improving academic excellence, student satisfaction and innovation, it managed to jump to 53rd position last year. This year, it has managed to move another seven places up the rankings to joint 46th out of 122 institutions.
Eight different scores are used to give an overall score out of 100 in the guide. The University of Chester came 22nd nationally for the value-added category, which reflects how well an institution helps its students to excel academically. This is based on comparing their entry qualifications with their final degree results to gauge how well they have been instructed. It also considers employment after graduation, the ratio of staff to students and students’ opinions in the National Student Survey.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Eunice Simmons said that continuing to rise in the Guardian rankings:
“…is testament to the dedication of our staff and students. This achievement illustrates our commitment to ensuring an outstanding learning experience, student satisfaction, excellence in teaching and research, supporting our students to excel and enabling them to develop as confident world citizens.”
