Christmas can be an expensive time, but fortunately there’s plenty to do in Chester that won’t break the bank.
Firstly, Chester will be hosting four free-to-attend parades. There will be a 12 Days of Christmas Parade on November 21, followed by a Lanterns Parade exactly a week later. December 5 will see a Winter Watch parade, and finally there will be the Saturnalia Parade on December 12.
If you’re having family visiting you in the run up to Christmas, ChesterBID has arranged free parking at Chester Racecourse at weekends. You’ll then be able to browse the Christmas market near the Town Hall at no cost and appreciate the decorations while browsing the festive treats and homemade goods. You can also see the festive decorations at Chester Cathedral for free, but for as little as £13, you can enjoy a live orchestra performance of the “The Snowman” at the venue too.
If you fancy something to eat on a budget, head to Chester Market. There’s a diverse selection of cuisine catering for a wide range of dietary preferences, with special offers being available from some vendors on Tuesday. If you still need something to do, go and browse the historical treasure that is Chester Rows; maybe you’ll find the perfect Christmas present in the many independent shops.
If you’ve recently started studying at the University of Chester, remember that there’s off-campus accommodation near Chester university available. There may even be no upfront fees to pay, and utility bills included in the rent.
