Travel website Booking.com has compiled a ranking of travel destinations based on its Traveller Review Awards and revealed Chester to be the UK’s most favoured destination.
Chester also achieved an impressive 10th place in the global rankings. Booking.com says about Chester:
“The historic gem offers a captivating blend of Roman, medieval, and Tudor architecture, all nestled within well-preserved city walls. Known for its friendly locals and vibrant community spirit, Chester exudes a warm, inviting charm that leaves visitors feeling truly at home.”
Topping the list of global destinations was the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya, which stands some 180 metres tall in the Matale District of Sri Lanka and has hotels located around it. Spain’s Cazorla came second, followed by Brazil’s Urubici and then New Zealand’s Taupo. The oldest city in America, Florida’s St. Augustine, came fifth. Northern Ireland also featured strongly as popular UK destinations, with Newry, Enniskillen and Portstewart following Chester on the list. Woolacombe in Devon and Haworth in West Yorkshire also featured prominently on the list. Only people who have ridden a taxi, hired a car or stayed in accommodation can leave their reviews on Booking.com.
For those of us lucky enough to live in Chester, it’s little surprise that the city ranks highly as a global destination.
