Loved by comedy fans of all ages across the UK thanks to his comic work on “The Young Ones” and “Blackadder”, writer Ben Elton has also enjoyed a sensational stand-up career.
Now, the multi-talented writer and comedian is bringing his latest show to Chester. February will find Elton on stage at the Storyhouse, the city’s revered arts hub in easy reach of Chester University accommodation.
The brand-new show is called “Authentic Stupidity” and has already earned the comic praise from the press. Describing his new show, The Times called it genius, while The Daily Telegraph commented:
“A comedy great gives modern life a grilling.”
The stand-up legend’s performance is part of a major live tour and focuses on what he believes is the latest threat to our existence. Rather than the vocal technophobes’ fear of artificial intelligence (AI), he feels old-fashioned AS, or authentic stupidity, is more dangerous.
In 2019, Elton returned to performing live comedy shows following a break of 15 years. He continues to return to his roots which began in the 80s when he presented and performed on “Saturday Night Live” on Channel 4, with new material that combines intelligence, insight, wit and humour to powerful effect.
Ben Elton will perform his Authentic Stupidity show in the main theatre of Storyhouse on Wednesday, February 5. The venue can be found on Hunter Street in Chester and the show starts at 7.30 pm. Full price admission to the show is charged at £34.50 per person.
