Any Chester residents or visitors who enjoyed the inaugural Festival of Ideas last year will be glad to learn it will be coming back this year.
The University of Chester and partnering organisations organise the free festival, which will this year run from Thursday, July 3 until Sunday, July 6. It will include various immersive events, panel discussions, keynote addresses and interactive workshops. Already included in the programme are Kate Adie, former chief news correspondent for the BBC, and Hannah Cockroft, a successful wheelchair racing champion. Broadcaster and writer Natalie Haynes and author and general practitioner Dr Amir Khan have also been announced as participating.
The University of Chester’s professor for later medieval European history, Katherine Wilson, will serve as director of the festival. She said:
“We are delighted that Chester Festival of Ideas is returning for 2025, and encourage event submissions for the festival from individuals, organisations, schools, colleges, and community groups. We’d love you to join us in bringing people together to explore and inspire new thinking, ideas, debate, and discussion.”
Schools and other organisations in the Cheshire area and beyond are welcome to submit ideas for further events by March 31 in areas like social injustice, community action and climate change, to name but a few.
The Festival of Ideas is just one of the many engaging events that takes place in Chester. If you’re studying at Chester but in need of accommodation, there is no-fees student accommodation in Chester at off campus locations like Hoole and the Garden Quarter.
