Avid book readers will be happy to hear that the Chester Literature Festival will be back from November 6 at the city’s Storyhouse arts centre.
The festival is the longest-running event dedicated to the written and spoken word in the country, having been going since 1989. As you would expect from a book festival, there will be book signings, live readings and other performances, award ceremonies, and special talks and workshops from celebrities and experts.
The Storyhouse website says about the event:
“Just as words can appear in many different forms, our literature festival is never just one thing. Each year we celebrate all things written, spoken, sung and signed with a programme spanning right across different genres, formats and art forms. From classic book talks in the theatre, to poetry pub crawls…”
It adds that there will barely be a quiet day during the festival. Familiar names that will be featuring at the event include Mackenzie Crook, Ruby Wax, Simon Reeve, Lucy Worsley, Shaparak Khorsandi, Martin Fry and George The Poet. Molly Naylor will once again lead the Poetry Pub Crawl, a long-established favourite at the festival. There will also be workshops for aspiring authors to hone their skills, such as sessions on how to write a book and how to get published.
With so many great events, you will rarely be bored in Chester during your studies. You can be even closer to the action when you have student accommodation near Chester city centre, sometimes with inclusive bills and no upfront deposits.
