The University of Chester will host special pre-arrival sessions online to help foreign students prepare early next year.
Designed to ease the acclimatisation process, the digital experiences are entitled “Your Introduction to Life in the UK”, which will feature a valuable question and answer section, and “Overcoming Culture Shock and Finding Your Community”.
The introductory session about UK life takes place on January 13, between 2 pm and 3 pm. In an easy-to-digest format, overseas learners headed for the university can join International Centre’s Student Experience team to access travel tips, types of support available and important details about student visas. Those attending the online session can discuss any concerns they have and get answers to their questions.
The second session covering culture shock and community is happening the next day on January 14, between 11 am and 12 pm. Led by Chloe Anderson, a Wellbeing Advisor at Chester, students can explore practical tips that can help them settle into living in the UK with greater confidence.
The friendly session will also introduce overseas student to the Chaplaincy and Community Hub, two welcoming spaces designed to aid connection with peers, offer support, and provide engaging activities that build a sense of belonging at the university.
While most students at Chester live in halls of residence on campus initially, they typically move into rental accommodation in year two. Bills included student accommodation Chester is a popular option which can simplify the renting process.
